When it comes to concealed carry, carrying the gun is the easy part. Using it under stress? That is where most people fall apart. And one of the most overlooked, but critical skills in that equation is the draw from concealment.
At C2 Tactical, we see it all the time. Shooters who can punch tight groups at 15 yards but have never once practiced drawing from under a hoodie, untucking a shirt, clearing a cover garment, or reholstering safely. That is not training. That is just recreational shooting. The concealed draw is the bridge between theory and reality.
In a real self-defense scenario, you will not have the luxury of starting with a pistol already in your hands and a shot timer on your belt. You will have adrenaline, awkward angles, environmental hazards, and possibly less than two seconds to react. Drawing efficiently—without fumbling, flagging yourself, or advertising your weapon – requires repetition, coaching, and controlled stress exposure.
But First, Let Us Talk Safety
At C2 Tactical, we do not allow live-fire draw-from-concealment training on our public ranges. It is simply too risky for most students and too unpredictable in a shared environment. Instead, we teach this essential skill using Blue Guns (non-firing training replicas) and in our dedicated SIM (Simulation) Room, where students can safely work on mechanics, garment clearing, and stress-based scenarios in a controlled setting.
This approach allows students to develop real competence in:
- Clearing a Cover Garment Smoothly
- Establishing a Firm Grip on the Firearm
- Executing a Clean and Efficient Draw-stroke
- Engaging Targets at Realistic Distances (3-15ft) and Conditions (Low-Light)
- And, Safely Reholstering, without rushing or risking injury
Once a student shows consistent and safe handling, we gradually increase complexity with movement, verbal commands, and decision-making under stress—all without putting anyone in danger.
Common Mistakes We Correct
- Garment Fumbles – Trying to draw with a jacket or an untucked shirt in the way is a recipe for disaster.
- Grip Errors – A poor initial grip throws off everything that follows.
- Tunnel Vision – Students freeze or ignore their surroundings under stress; training helps break that habit.
- Unsafe Reholstering – We teach students to slow down and reholster with purpose, not panic.
The Bottom Line
You would not carry a fire extinguisher you did not know how to use, right? The same goes for a concealed firearm. If you carry daily but have never trained your draw under pressure—and under supervision—you are relying on luck, not skill. And luck is not a strategy.
We offer private instruction and small-group courses designed specifically around these realities. Come work with our team using the tools and facilities built for safe, realistic concealed carry training. The goal is not just to shoot—it is to be prepared.
Your right to carry is protected. The skills you develop through training are earned. See you on the range.
