Let us talk about something that has been making waves lately: President Trump’s round of new tariffs. Yeah, they are back. And while tariffs might sound like one of those boring economic terms best left to cable news and angry Twitter threads, they are about to hit close to home. Especially if you are someone who shoots regularly or is thinking about buying a new firearm.
Here’s the scoop: these new tariffs are aimed at imports, which include a lot of the ammo and some of the guns you see on our shelves.
Ammo First: It’s Gonna Sting
Let us start with ammo, since that is what most of us go through the fastest. The U.S. imports a massive amount of ammunition, and some of the most affordable and reliable brands are on the hit list.
- PMC (Korea)? Add 25% more to the price. That is about $100 more per 1,000 rounds of 5.56. Ouch.
- Igman (Bosnia)? Try a 36% tariff. That is another $180 on your 7.62×39 bulk packs.
- Even Sellier & Bellot (Czech Republic) got a 20% bump. So, if you are a fan of their 9mm FMJ, expect to pay $40 more per 1,000 rounds.
This is not speculation — it is already happening. Ammo distributors are warning retailers like us that prices are going up. So, if you have been waiting for prices to drop before restocking, well… you might want to rethink that.
Firearms: Some Bumps, But Not a Total Disaster (Yet)
Firearms are a mixed bag. A lot of imported guns, like some models from Taurus (Brazil), are technically affected, but Taurus is already ramping up its U.S. production facility to work around the tariffs. Smart move.
Still, plenty of manufacturers rely on imported parts and raw materials, even if the final assembly happens here in the States. So, we could still see some increases in firearm prices, just not as fast or dramatic as ammo.
So, What Should You Do?
Glad you asked. Here is what we are doing — and what we recommend you do too:
- Stay in the loop. If you follow us or shop with us, we will keep you posted. We are watching this stuff closely.
- Buy smart. If there is a gun or caliber you have been eyeing, now might be the right time to pull the trigger (pun intended). Waiting could mean paying more.
- Think local. Domestic ammo makers may become your new best friends. If foreign stuff gets too expensive, American-made rounds might actually be the better value.
Bottom Line
We do not like higher prices either — we are shooters, just like you. Whether you are training, plinking, or carrying daily, we know ammo costs are a big deal. That is why we are doing everything we can to stock smart, source wisely, and keep prices as fair as possible.
Come talk to us if you have questions. Seriously. We are happy to walk you through options, help you stock up, or find alternatives if your go-to brand just got slapped with a new tax.
We have got your back, even when D.C. decides to make things complicated.
Stay safe, shoot straight
